Chairman of the Agricultural Committee of Verkhovna Rada insists on adopting the new Law of Ukraine on sugar
Chairman of the Agricultural Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine N. Prisyajnyuk said that his committee insists on adopting a new law on sugar. He said this February 11, 2010 at a press conference in Zhytomyr, UNIAN reports.
He said the current law, passed in 1999 and regulates the price of sugar and sugar beet, does not stimulate the development of sugar industry in Ukraine.
In addition, N. Prisyajnyuk noted that he designed the bill wich has already been registered in the parliament.
According to him, the country’s sugar industry is capable of producing about 5 million tons of sugar pear year. For the success of the industry, according to the deputy in the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, is necessary to create an analytical monitoring group which will monitor and forecast the situation with the cultivation and processing of sugar in the country.
N. Prisyajnyuk confident that with proper subventions sugar beet of Ukraine is not only able to provide themselves with sugar, but it can be successfully exported to Russia.

But he insists on the need to abolish quotas on domestic sugar production in the country. "The current quota does not help sugar producers, but only prevents" - noted the official.
Head of the Agricultural Committee of the VR also announced the intention to gather in his committee for a round-table farmers, sugar producers, representatives of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and discuss these issues.
N. Prisyajnyuk also stressed that the parliament should urgently pass a new law to resolve the situation with an increase in sugar prices.
