Government service of standardization rejected 44% of tested fish
Territorial bodies of state supervision of Government service of standardization of Ukraine for 11 months in 2009 tested the 761 ton of fish products worth more than 16 million 101 thousand UAH. Inspectors found that 334.5 tonnes (44%) of tested fish and seafood (fish is cold smoked, salted fish, preserves, canned goods) in excess of 6 million 893 thousand UAH. did not conform to current regulatory documents (ND).
During the period examined 347 fish processing enterprises of different ownership forms, representing 77% of the total number of enterprises in Ukraine.
Most violations (33%) were found during the labeling and packaging products. Instead, only 1% of fish production is not responsible for the security parameters (microbiological indicators, toxicity).
During the test at one of the enterprises in Kiev area inspectors found the bacteria E. coli, an excess amount of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms in 2 of 7 tested batches of products. The enterprise also documented violations of compounding and labeling of products. In particular, the label no expiration date, the time of manufacture, calorie products, and the inscription "No preservatives" not confirmed by test reports.
The number of violations of physical and chemical parameters were 11% of all violations. For example, during the inspection of production and sale of fish preserves "Herring fillet pieces in oil" Forelka "Manufacturer of the Kiev area inspectors found the simultaneous use of two preservatives (sorbic acid and sodium benzonat), artificial colors, E-122 (Azo Rubine) and E-110 (yellow "sunset"), which is in violation of "Sanitary rules and norms on the use of food additives".
