Government is going to create a register of genetically modified varieties and crop
In the near future will be made public register of genetically modified varieties and crops. At the moment the government is negotiating with the Academy of Agrarian Sciences, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine concerning the preparation of such a registry. This January 28, 2010 informed the Minister of Economy B. Danylyshyn, to an UNIAN.
According to the minister, the system of national laboratories will control production in Ukraine and products containing genetically modified organisms. In particular, it will set up a national reference laboratory.
"Right now, she probably will be formed based on the Institute of Medved or one of the institutes of NANU and the laboratory will deal with accreditation of the laboratory to determine the content of GMO and make appropriate recommendations," - said the Minister.
