For "concealment" of GMOs in products will fine
On March, 7th the Law providing introduction of penalties for granting of a unreliable information about food stuffs to consumers has come into force. In particular, it is a question of application of penal sanctions for non-specified the presence or absence in food stuffs of genetically modified organisms (GMO). It is reported by legal portal ’LIGA ZAKON’.
Thus, the Law N1779-VI (Bill N3230 on September 26, 2009) complements article 156 (1) of the Code of Administrative Offenses in two parts, according to which the provision of producers or workers in trade, catering and service industries, and citizens engaged in entrepreneurial activity in these industries, citizens-consumers misleading information about products - if this information did not harm the health, life and property of the consumer - is punishable by a fine ranging from 10 to 50 (170-850 grn.) non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens.
In the case of inaction by the specified persons about align of incorrect information on all the goods in accordance, or re-provision of false information about the product within one year from the date of sanction - is punishable by a fine ranging from 50 to 200 (850-3400 UAH.) non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens.
The law of Ukraine ’About protection of the consumers rights’ is supplemented with position according to which the information on production should contain a mark about presence or absence in structure of food stuffs of genetically modified components.
Besides the manufacturer (seller) in case of revealing of unreliable information about production (if it does not put harm to life, health or property of the consumer) within a week should withdraw this production from sale and bring the information about it into accordance with norms of the law.
